Howto: Change the Product Key for Office 2013

The 'recommended' method for changing the license key for Office 2013 is to go to the Control Panel, Add\Remove Programs <or> Programs and Features, select 'Office 2013' in the list of installed programs, click change and choose the option to change product key.

If this option is not present, the following alternative may be used:

  1. Open a command prompt
    1. XP: Start -> Run -> type: cmd -> <ENTER>
    2. Win 7: Start -> type: cmd -> <ENTER>
  2. Run the OSPP.VBS script in the Office directory with the switch to configure a new key:
    1. For XP installs: cscript "C:\Program Files \Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /inpkey:YOURKEYGOESHERE
    2. For 32-bit installs on 64-bit OSs: cscript "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /inpkey:YOURKEYGOESHERE
    3. For 64-bit installs: cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /inpkey:YOURKEYGOESHERE
    4. Replace YOURKEYGOESHERE with your product key (It should be in the format of: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx)

In our testing, this appeared to immediately change the product key in use. Just be sure to close and re-open any Office applications and the new key will be in use.
